Fix QuickBooks Error 6000 -83

This error usually occurs when we are opening, restoring or taking back-up of your company file. Steps to be followed for what we were doing when we got QuickBooks Error 6000-83

I was creating a backup of my company file
I was restoring my company file
I keep my company file on a Windows server
I keep my company file on a Linux server

I was creating a backup of my company file

Kindly follow the steps if you received Quickbooks error 6000-83 while creating backup of company file:-

  1. Go to File menu and click Quit QuickBooks desktop.
  2. Open the Start button and type >> File Explorer.
  3. Select PC >> C: drive.
  4. Create a New Folder and name it as QuickBooks Test Folder.

I was restoring my company file

  1. Go to File menu and click Quit QuickBooks desktop.
  2. Open the Start button and type >> File Explorer.
  3. Right click the file with .qbb extension and select Rename.
  4. Create a New Folder and name it as QuickBooks Test Folder.

I keep my company file on a Windows server

  1. Use QuickBooks File Doctor to scan your company file.
  2. If you have a backup of your company file use it to restore the data from your company file.
  3. Edit your windows host file.

I keep my company file on a Linux server

  1. Configure your linux server.
  2. Configure your host file.
  • Go to File menu and click Quit QuickBooks desktop.
  • Open the Start button and type >> File Explorer.
  • Select PC >> C: drive.
  • Find System32 Folder. Open driver folder and then ETC folder.
  • Right click the file called C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts. Select Open with and then Notepad.
  • Go to the bottom of the file. Add the Linux server IP address to the end of the text. Then press the Tab key and add your Linux server name.
  • Select File and then Save. Then close Notepad.

Open QuickBooks Desktop and your company file. If you can, everything is fixed. If you still see Error -6000,-83, reach out to our support team so we can help.
