  • Choose File from the Server and then switch Company File to Single User Mode.
  • Choose File when it’s finished and then switch Company File to Multi User Mode.

Solution 1: You should empty the contents of the Entitlement Client folder.

  • Please Note: After doing the steps below, you’ll have to re-register your QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.
  • Navigate to: C:\Program Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8, using Windows Explorer.
  • To select all the files in the folder press Ctrl+A keys then press Delete.
  • To confirm the action, select yes.
  • Launch again QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale and then register the application again.

Solution 2: Renaming the WSActivity File

  • On your computer, display hidden files and folders.
  • Navigate to: C:\Program Data\Intuit\ QuickBooks Point of Sale XX\Ini, using Windows Explorer
  • Right-click on the WSActivity and select Rename.
  • Type OLDWSActivity. Click anywhere to save the change.
  • Now, you can finally close the window and then open QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.

To use static IP addresses these steps are required for your computer. The solution might not work when you restart any of your computers if your computers use dynamic addresses.

Step 1: Getting your computers’ names and IP addresses

  • Make sure you have a pen and paper handy before you start with the steps. As a user with admin rights, you also need access to both server computer and workstations.
  • On your server computer first follow these steps. On your workstations, do the steps again.
  • Please Note: Your company file is hosted by your server computer hosts .Access the company file saved in the server follow the steps given below:
  • Press Windows+R on your keyboard, on the server computer.
  • In the Run window,type “cmd” and then press Enter.
  • Type “ipconfig /all” (ensure that there’s a space after ipconfig), and then press Enter.
  • Please take a note of the host name and IP address.
  • On the workstations, repeat the steps given below.

Step 2: Make changes in the Windows hosts file

  • On both the server computer and workstations, do the following steps
  • Now, you need to close QuickBooks.
  • In the server computer, open the Windows Start menu.
  • Click on Computer.
  • You can either:
  • C:\Windows\Syswow64\Drivers\Etc
  • C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc
  • Double-click on the host file, and then click on Notepad.
  • Followed by the computer name, enter the IP Address. To enter space, use the Tab key.
  • The workstation’s IP and computer name should be there in the server computer.
  • The server computer’s IP and computer nameshould be there on the workstation.

Step 3: To the hosts file, save your changes

  • On both server computer and workstations, save the file,after you’re done updating the IP addresses in Notepad.
  • Go to File menu in Notepad, and then select Save.
  • Including the quotation marks enter the file name as “hosts”,.
  • Click on Desktop, and then Save.
  • Find and Right-click onthe file you just saved and then select Copy.
  • Used in Step 2,browse to the file location. Either:
  • C:\Windows\Syswow64\Drivers\Etc
  • C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc
  • Find and right-click the hosts file, then click on Rename.
  • Now, you can rename the hosts file to hosts old, then click on Continue.
  • On your keyboard, press Ctrl+Vand then click on Continue.

Solution 4: Configuring your Windows firewall

  • Point of Sale automatically configures the firewall for you when firewall blocks connectivity between the server and client workstations. However, at times manual configuration is required.
  • The following processes can be interrupted when security programs block QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale ports:
  • Electronic Funds Transfer is done through Intuit Merchant Services credit card processing.
  • Database Server Manager is done through the ability to connect and record transactions/changes to the company file.
  • Intuit Entitlement Service is done with the help of Product license and user validation.

Please note:

  • Ensure that you add the Firewall Ports and Executable files that QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale required if you are using a third-party security program

  • Configuring Windows firewall.
  • Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the run command.
  • Now, type in control. To open the Control Panel, click onOK.
  • Set the “view by” to Smaller Icons and then click on Windows Firewall.
  • Click on Advanced Settings, and then select Inbound.
  • Select New Rule.
  • Choose Port, then selectNext.
  • Now, you need to enter the port numbers, then select Next (Contact us to know more about Point of Sale Firewall Ports).
  • Click on Allow Connection, then selectNext.
  • Name your firewall rule (for example- POS), and then click on Finish.
  • To create a new Outbound Rule, follow steps 5-9.

Solution 5: Reinstallation of Point of Sale

  • To help resolve problems during installation or while running the software clean reinstallation is required sometimes. To completely uninstall and then install QuickBooks Point of Sale on your computer again, here are the steps.
  • Before you start with thesteps below, ensure that:
  • You have already created a backup of your data file.
  • You already have your installation CD or your QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale download file .
  • You have your License and Product Numbers with you.
  • Before performing the next steps, you can sign in as Windows Administrator.
  • You can restart the computers you will be working on.

Step 1. Uninstallation QuickBooks Point of Sale

  • Press Windows + R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  • Enter “Control Panel”, and then click on OK.
  • Click on Programs and Features.Please Note: Select Uninstall a Program if the Control Panel is in Category View.
  • Select QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 18.0 from the list of programs and then choose Uninstall/Change.
  • To complete the process, follow the prompts.

Step 2. Renaming all Point of Sale folders

  • Copy the Point of Sale data folder and paste it to the Desktop in case you are uninstalling from the server computer (or the computer where the POS data file is locally saved) . Add ‘OLD’ At the end of the folder name, add ‘OLD'(as a suggestion). From recognizing the folder to create a new one it will prevent QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.
  • Now, you need to delete the QBPOSDBSrvUser Windows user.
  • Click on Windows Start and then select Control Panel.
  • Click on User Accounts and then choose Manage another account.
  • Select Continue in the User Account Control window.
  • Click on QBPOSDBSrvUser and then delete the account.
  • Confirm the folder that has to be deleted.
  • Now, you can restart your computer.

Step 3: Reinstallation of Point of Sale

Step 4: Restoring your company file

  • Please Note: Restore the qbpos.db file located in the data folder pasted on your desktop in case you are unable to make a backup.
  • Create a new company file after you open QuickBooks Point of Sale. Use a name that you wanted to use, and the restore the created backup.

Verify you can close and reopen Point of Sale without errorsafter the file is restored and you have verified it is the right set of data. Now, connect with other POS machines after which you connect with QuickBooks Desktop (if you need to).

  • Registering your QuickBooks Point of Sale again.
  • Ensure that you can still open QuickBooks Desktop and register if prompted as QuickBooks Desktop and Point of Sale share some licensing files. Move the data folder to another folder such as Public Documents or Shared Documents If you want to remove it from your desktop, please don’t delete it.
