Method 1: Update QuickBooks Desktop

Method 2: Update your file location

If you store your QuickBooks company file on a server, on an external hard drive, or in the cloud like web based applications, you could modify its location. You can access to these locations and get a way to resolve this error.

How to switch your QuickBooks Company file

  • Open the Windows Start menu on either your server computer or workstation.
  • Type “File Explorer” into the search and open File Explorer.
  • Search for and open your QuickBooks folder. You can also press F2 while QuickBooks is open to get the location.
  • Find your company file, which ends with QBW. It should look like this: [company name].qbw.
  • Write down the drive name and location. You’ll put the file back here later on.

Create a portable company file and restore it to your server 

  • Your company file is now stored on a local drive. With which you can generate a portable company file which is a compact version of your financial data.
  • Click to Open QuickBooks Desktop on the computer where you have moved your company file.
  • Click to Open or try to restore an existing company.
  • Search for the specified folder and open the company file you moved to your C: drive.
  • Generate a portable company file.
  • That will creates a navigated version of your company file that will also modifies your file location data.
  • Click on the File menu and choose Quit QuickBooks.
  • Then click on to reopen QuickBooks.
  • Move to the File menu and then click on to Open or Restore Company.
  • Click to Restore a file and then choose Next.
  • Search and locate the portable company file with extension (QBM) you created.
  • Then click on to Open and Next.
  • In the restore location, click on the drive from where you have initially moved your company file.
  • Click on Save. With this you will be back to the network location.
  • Click on the File menu and choose Quit QuickBooks.

Step 3: Download and run File Doctor on your PC

Either you can download or you can use QuickBooks File Doctor which will scan and clear your company file. If at all your issue is been resolved, make sure you are taking complete backup in proper interval and it is already taken.

Method 4: You can manually resolve the file path

Search for your ND file

  • Click on to Open File Explorer on your server computer and locate for your QuickBooks folder.
  • Search for the file with your name of the company and ND at the end.
  • Double-click on the ND file and click on Delete.

  • If you have not configured, click on to download and install the QuickBooks Database Server Manager on your PC.
  • Click to Open the Windows Start menu on your PC computer.
  • Enter “Database” into the search bar and click on to open QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  • Click on to the QuickBooks folder containing your company files.
  • Click on to Start Scan.
  • Once the scanning process is done, click on Close.
  • You can apply these folder permissions to share your company files or folders.
